The fairest harmony springs from discord. Aristotle

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

“How we humans hate discord,” the writer mused. “We have a talent for creating it, but we don’t like it.”

Isn’t that the truth?

Even when there is no sign of strife in our lives, we have a knack for creating it. Some of us practice this habit more than others, but the sad truth is that we’re all guilty of being agents of discord at one time or another. The answer to lasting peace and harmony is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature (Colossians 3:5).

Put to death our desires?  How do we do that? How do we stop murdering peace and instead find the harmony we seek? Colossians 3 has the answer: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…” vs. 15a.

We let Christ rule when we make the decision to trust Him with our futures.

We let Christ rule when we become confident in Him to provide all we need.

We let Christ rule when we surrender every outcome to His loving and powerful care.

When we cease fighting, demanding, and cajoling we will know a harmony that has sprung forth from discord—a peace that passes understanding.

What discord are you facing in your life today?  How has surrendering to Jesus helped you find true peace?
